The turkey timer is ticking and Thanksgiving day will be here before we know it with the rest of the holidays right around the corner. It might be the most wonderful time of the year but it can also be the most stressful time of the year! There are so many details to keep track of, schedules and gifts to organize, days filled with entertaining and, for many, guests to host at home.

The very last thing I would want any of you to do this year is take on anything that will feel like just another thing on your plate or another line on your to do list. That said, with a few days left before Thanksgiving and a whole week after that before December there are a couple of quick things you can do to set yourself up for success the rest of the holiday season. And hey with the long weekend ahead who says you can’t turn on a Hallmark Channel movie, pour a glass of leftover bubbly and tackle a quick but impactful organizing project.

Organize Your Entertaining Items

Whether you are gearing up to host the big Thanksgiving dinner at your house (sending along best wishes to any of you tackling that feat this year) or just want to be prepared for an upcoming, and perhaps impromptu, holiday gathering now is a great time to take inventory of your entertaining items. Here are a couple of tips for organizing your entertaining items:

  • Take stock of what you have on hand. Did Aunt Pat break a wine glass last year (again!) leaving you with an incomplete set? Go ahead and add to cart now so you won’t be scrambling later this season.

  • Don’t be afraid to reorganize a bit. Often when we are organizing clients’ homes we store entertaining items in areas that are not quite as accessible as most of our clients don’t entertain on a daily basis. That might not be the case this time of year. Don’t be afraid to rearrange your kitchen or pantry to get some of those larger plater or holiday items closer at hand for the next month or so (you can probably pop the ice cream maker in storage until spring right?)

  • Get ready to re-organize. If your entertaining items are not currently as organized as you would like now is a great time to change that! Invest in a wine glass organizer or plate & china storage set so you will be ready to put everything away after the holidays.

Set Up Your Guest Room

Do you have guests staying with you over the holidays? There is something so magical and terrifying all at the same time about house guests. You want them to be comfortable and feel welcomed but let’s be honest, you also want them to leave.

I shared a Reel on Instagram (make sure you are following along here) this week all about getting prepped for holiday guests. Now is the time to stock your bathrooms with all the extras (the 3 ts – toilet paper, tissues and towels) and if you want to go the extra mile add in a 4th with some nice toiletries they might enjoy during their stay.

Restock your Pantry Staples

Whether you like it or not (I may or may not be team not) the holidays come with a lot of cooking and baking. And there is nothing worse than getting ready to bake up a delicious batch of cinnamon rolls or your famous sufganiyot just to find out you are out of powdered sugar.

Take this week to review your pantry and kitchen staples list. Check expiration dates. Review your back stock. And make a list. Chances are you are headed to the grocery store anyway this week (along with the rest of America) so what is a few more items on the list.
