A few weeks ago I was invited to attend the BHG 100, A Stylemaker Experience event hosted by Better Homes & Gardens in New York City. BHG Stylemaker is an annual event but this year was extra special as it was the celebration of the magazine, Better Homes & Gardens, 100th Anniversary! What an amazing accomplishment and inspiration!
I have been invited to the BHG Stylemaker previously but the past few events were virtual so I was so excited to attend this year in person and let me tell you, it did not disappoint! Only 100 creatives and people from across the country were invited to attend and I was so honored to be included among some truly amazing company.
The full day of events was hosted at the DotDash Meredith HQ in New York. The HQ is located in downtown Manhattan on the beautiful waterfront and the space is breathtaking, although, I would expect nothing less from this style focused brand. We spent the day learning from industry professionals and Food Network and HGTV stars. There were a variety of panel discussions and conversations and, let me tell you, my brain was packed full of ideas and inspiration after hearing from this amazing group. To highlight just a few of the delightful speakers, we heard from:
-
Dave and Jenny Marrs, a home renovating duo turned TV personalities (anyone a fan of Fixer to Fabulous?) who now have their own product line (check out all of the adorable items here)
-
Jonathan Adler and Simon Doonan who shared their honest experiences of growing their brands and how they have managed to evolve in an ever changing landscape.
-
Nick Cutsumpas, Carmeon Hamilton, Hawa Hassan and Christiane Lemieux on how to grow and monetize your brand.
-
Jeremy Jankowski (Creator Partnerships at Pinterest), Anna Brockway (Co-founder and President of Charish), Patti Carpenter (Carpenter + Company) and Benjamin Reynaert (Creative Director at Interior Define and Contributing Editor at Domino Magazine) on trends that are happening right now.
Each and every speaker and member of the creative panels shared in such an authentic and heartfelt manner that it was impossible to not feel moved and even a bit pushed to implement changes into your own business and brand. This is exactly why I attend and speak at events (like I shared with my experience at the How To Summit a few weeks ago). Sometimes it is so easy to be working in your business that you forget to work on your business and taking that step back is key.
The day ended with the 100th Birthday party overlooking the Hudson with the most amazing sunset! I, of course, love the speeches and panels but I also love just meeting and connecting with other creatives. Throughout the day and at the evening celebration I met a ton of other creatives and loved spending time chatting anything and everything. It is awe inspiring to hear from others and what they have accomplished or are working on for their brands.
As a shy girl from the DC area getting to attend and be around such smart, creative people for even 24 hours was amazing! It was a whirlwind experience but I came away inspired and ready to do more to and for Rachel and Company and as an organizing expert.
